Team of 4 Relay

Support Vehicles:

  • Only ONE support vehicle per team will be allowed.
  • One support vehicle may support more than one team or rider. However, a Team of 4 Relay support vehicle may not support a Team of 2 Relay or a Solo rider.
  • All registered support vehicles will depart from the Start Zone at the latest 45 minutes before the race starts at 05h15.
  • Team of 4 Relay support vehicles will proceed to Checkpoint 1 at Water Point 1 and await their riders.
  • Solo support vehicles must take the designated route directly to Waterpoint 3 and Waterpoint 6 and are not allowed to use the route via Checkpoint 1, 2 and 5.
  • No vehicles will be permitted to travel back against the direction of the route.
  • Once the team rider has departed on a stage, the support vehicle will leave the checkpoint and travel without stopping until the next checkpoint.
  • Support vehicles are not permitted to stop anywhere between checkpoints along the route unless special permission has been granted. Such vehicles will have an OFFICIAL or MEDIA sticker on. You can collect your stickers at registration the morning of the event in Cullinan.  Medical vehicles are allowed to stop to provide medical assistance.
  • Support vehicles are not permitted to render any assistance to any riders on a stage (unless deemed an emergency)
  • Support vehicles are not permitted to drive behind, next to or in front of their team rider/s to offer assistance of any form (eg: additional lighting).
  • Speeds of support vehicles are to be kept to a maximum of 40km/h when passing riders.
  • Always be aware of riders coming from behind on a descent.
  • Support vehicles that are found to be purposefully breaking the above rules will result in the disqualification of their teams.
  • All team litter and refuse is to be removed by the support vehicle responsible for that team.
  • No flashing or strobe lights allowed on support vehicles.

Overtaking

Support vehicles are not allowed to overtake riders on descents. Should you happen to be behind a rider on a descent you need to stay a safe distance behind the rider until the road flattens out or on an uphill. Make sure it is safe before you overtake the rider.

Stages and rider participation

Team of 4 Relay: Stage 1 must be done by the full team. Each team rider must do one of the four stages between Stages 2 – 5, and Stage 6 must be done by the full team again and the team must finish the race together. All riders have to follow the official race route. Any deviation from the route will lead to disqualification. No rider may ride more than their designated stages. A rider may NOT continue riding onto the next stage. Doing so will result in that rider being disqualified.

STAGE 1

  • Start to Checkpoint 1 (WP1)
  • Full team rides
  • Distance = 42km
  • Elevation Gain = 370m

STAGE 2

  • Checkpoint 1 (WP1) to Checkpoint 2 (WP2)
  • Rider A rides
  • Distance = 46km
  • Elevation gain = 430m

STAGE 3

  • Checkpoint 2 (WP2) to Checkpoint 3 (WP3)
  • Rider B rides
  • Distance = 45km
  • Elevation gain = 290m

STAGE 4

  • Checkpoint 3 (WP3) to Checkpoint 5 (WP5)
  • Rider C rides
  • Distance = 45km
  • Elevation gain = 770m

STAGE 5

  • Checkpoint 5 (WP5) to Checkpoint 6 (WP6)
  • Rider D rides
  • Distance = 32km
  • Elevation gain = 520m

STAGE 6

  • Checkpoint 6 (WP6) to Finish
  • Full team ride.
  • Distance = 44km
  • Elevation gain = 930m
SUPPORT VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION

Support vehicles will be issued with an identifying support vehicle sticker. Duplicated support vehicle stickers used on more than one vehicle will result in immediate disqualification.

Checkpoint Procedures

Only when the full team (Rider A, B, C & D) arrives at checkpoint 1, will the next rider be allowed to start.

Rider A must check in with the scanner and hand over the timing chip to rider B.

Rider B must check in with the scanner and hand over the timing chip to rider C.

Checkpoint only with no handover.

Rider C must check in with the scanner and hand over the timing chip to rider D.

Rider D must check in with the scanner and continue with the full team (Rider A, B, C & D) to the Finish.

Waterpoint only and no checkpoint.

Support vehicle parking at Checkpoints/Waterpoints
  • All support vehicles must park on the side of the road and make sure there is enough space for riders to pass.
  • When leaving a Checkpoint, make sure the road is clear from cyclists before you head out.
