2021 Preliminary Race day information.

Registration and race start:

SAS BOARD

Please ensure you already have your SAS number registered and mounted on your bike when arriving at the Race Start.

REGISTRATION

Registration and COVID screening will open at 4 am and is a simple process that will take less than 2 minutes to complete.

VIRTUAL GOODIE BAG

There is no collection of goody bags at the start. You will receive your virtual goody bag by email, race medal and t-shirt at Dunkeld Estate.

Bag drop

We encourage all riders to have their Drop Bags ready and packed the night before. Hand in your Drop Bag directly after registration and screening. Each rider will receive an armband with your Drop Bag number. Please do not remove this armband as we will use this to tick off the meals you receive at the halfway and finish points.

AMENITIES

VIP Toilets will be available, and as per all Advendurance events, iCoffee will have your favourite brew ready!

LIGHTS

Riders DO NOT have to start the race with lights mounted as was the case in previous years. However, lights must be mounted and tested when leaving the halfway point at 133km at De Villa Resort. This is compulsory!

RACE START

Batch Load opens at 6:00, Race Briefing at 6:10 and Race Start at 6:15.

NEUTRAL ZONE

All riders will start together and will be escorted along the 6 km neutral zone through Cullinan. The race will officially start at the end of the neutral zone when riders turn left onto the first dirt road.

There will be 7 water points and checkpoints along the route. Note: Not all water points/checkpoints are handover points.

Solo Riders

Compulsory checkpoints at water points 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7.

Team of 2 Relay

The handover point will be at the halfway mark at water point 3. Compulsory checkpoints at water points 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7.

Team of 4 Relay

Handover points will be at water points 1, 2, 3, 5 & 6. Compulsory checkpoints at water points 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7

WP 1 | 42km

No toilet facilities available.
Checkpoint and handover point for Team of 4 Relay.
First rider ETA – 07:45, Last rider ETA – 09:00. 
46km and 430m climbing ahead to WP2.
Distance to finish: 210km.

WP 2 | 88km

Expect a festive vibe from the van den Bergh family serving: cheese sausages, boiled potatoes, frikkadels, sandwiches and the standard water, Coke, sportsdrink, peanuts & raisins, bananas, chocolates and YumYum peanut butter.
Portaloo toilets will be available for your convenience.
Checkpoint and handover point for Team of 4 Relay.
First rider ETA – 09:35, Last rider ETA – 12:00.
45km and 290m Climbing ahead to WP3.
Distance to finish: 164km.

WP 3 | 133km

Welcome to De-Villa Resort, you have made it to the Halfway point!
This is also Supporters Point 1 and all support vehicles must follow directions to the car park at the campsite.
This is also the checkpoint and handover point for Team of 2 and Team of 4 Relays.
Compulsory checkpoint for Solo Riders.
Riders, please follow arrows to the bike park where your race number will be scanned and you can collect your Drop Bag.
All riders will receive a burger, chips and pasta salad as a halfway meal, which will be ticked off on your armband.
Riders may make use of all facilities and you can take a swim, have a shower, and do a change of kit if you wish. You can relax in the shade under the trees and umbrellas, rehydrate and listen to good music. There will be a Tech Zone for any bike-related issues, and Medical gazebo to take care of any personal niggles. 
Please remember to MOUNT YOUR LIGHTS at this point, and take warm clothes for the approaching night ride!
Drop Bags must be dropped off at the same gazebo where you collected it.
WP3 cut-off enforced at 17:00.
For the backmarkers, you need to leave this waterpoint by 17:00! Riders unable to LEAVE De Villa Resort by 17:00 will NOT be able to continue the race and will not be supported by the race any longer. These riders will be responsible for their own transport from this water point. 
First rider ETA – 11:15, Last rider ETA – 16:30.
31km and 384m climbing ahead to WP4. 
Distance to finish: 119km.

WP 4 | 164km

No toilet facilities available.
Compulsory checkpoint for all riders.
First rider ETA – 12:15, Last Rider ETA – 18:45.
14km and 390m climbing ahead to WP5.
Distance to finish: 88km.

WP 5 | 178km

Portaloo toilets will be available for your convenience.
Checkpoint and handover point for Team of 4 Relay.
Compulsory Checkpoint for all riders.
First rider ETA – 13:00, Last Rider ETA – 20:00.
32km and 520m climbing ahead to WP6.
Distance to finish: 74km.

WP 6 | 210km

Welcome to Blinkwater Mills, Stoffberg!
This is also Supporters point 2 and all support vehicles must follow directions to the car park as directed by security personnel.
Checkpoint and handover point for Team of 4 Relay.
Compulsory checkpoint for all riders.
Toilet facilities will be available for your convenience.
First rider ETA – 14:00, Last rider ETA – 22:15.
WP6 Cut-off enforced at 23:00.
For the backmarkers, you need to leave this waterpoint by 23:00! Riders unable to LEAVE Blinkwater Mills by 23:00 will NOT be able to continue the race and will not be supported by the race any longer. These riders will be responsible for their own transport from this water point. 
27km and 580m Climbing ahead to WP7.
Distance to finish: 42km.

WP 7 | 232km

Once again the van den Bergh family welcomes you at the top of Korfnek Pass before the last stretch to Dunkeld!
Compulsory checkpoint for all riders.
First rider ETA – 15:15, Last rider ETA – 01:30 (Saturday).
15km and 315m climbing ahead to the Finish.
The last 1km will be a single track into the Dunkeld Estate finish venue.

Race Rules

Adhering to the race rules is extremely important to ensure everyone’s safety and to make the event experience a pleasant one for all involved. The list of rules is quite comprehensive. Please read through them. No exceptions will be made.

Evacuations

*Please note: Riders who needed to be evacuated from the route before the halfway point will be taken to the De Villa Resort. Riders who needed to be evacuated from the route between De Villa Resort and Dunkeld Estate will be taken to Dunkeld Estate.

Transport of riders and bikes from these two venues will be for the rider’s account, and it will remain their responsibility to arrange such transport.

Your Done

The finish venue will be at Dunkeld Country & Equestrian Estate, Dullstroom, where a warm pasta meal will be waiting for you. The finish will NOT be at Tonteldoos. Once you cross the finish line, you will receive your well-deserved race medal and a finisher’s t-shirt.

Remember to collect your Drop Bag!

Supporters & Festivities

You could have a swim, take a shower, relax at the venue chill zone, or have a pasta meal at the Dunkeld Restaurant, which is included in your race entry. Riders and supporters may make use of the Dunkeld cash bar.

Your supporters may join you in the celebration at Dunkeld Estate where they can make use of the facilities at their own cost. Supporters may order meals from the restaurant at their own cost. There will be parking marked for support vehicles.
